Black is the color palettes darkest color and usually associated with mystery, death, grief, elegance, power, fear, evil, strength, authority, formality, aggression, rebellion and sophistication. In western culture black has been the color of mourning since the Roman empire but fo instance in China black represents winter, water and north.
All the way up until the 14th centry black was not a common color to wear, partly because there weren't good dyes around. But as soon as high-quality dyes appeared and the laws consearning colored cloth got more restrict, it was time for black to start its conquest as the world's favorite color. Even though black was now loved by nobility and monarchs everywhere in Europe, it wasn't till 1927, when the legendary Coco Chanel brought the little black dress in to the lights of stardom, black began to rise. And with a help of rising pop culture, everybody wanted to look like Audrey Hepburn in her little black dress from the film Breakfast at Tiffany's, black came here to stay.
Why black is my alltime favorite color to wear?
Don't get me wrong. I love colors but nothing can beat black. Besides black has many great benefits like the ability to make you look slimmer and the fact that it never goes out of fanshion.
But why I choose time and again all black outfits is because black as a color is suttle enough to be worn everyday or in a party but bold enough to make a statement. It's also sophisticated enough to make me feel absolutely posh but casual enough so I don't feel over dressed. I can wear any accessories and jewerly with it and add any kind of shoes I fancy that day. It's the easiest color to dress up or down, and most importantly it will always suit you no matter your skintone or hair color, black is the go-to.
"Women think of all the colors exept the absence of color.
I have said that black has it all.
White too.
Their beauty is absolute.
It is the perfect harmony."
- Coco Chanel
